Every project starts with a conversation
Let’s start a conversation about what you need to know and how the results will be used. I design the measurement plan, guide data collection, analyze the results, generate graphics, and report what it shows, including what the data does not show.
SERVICES OFFERED
Noise monitoring oversight & design
Measurement plans for homes, property lines, and natural areas: meter placement, recording approach, and how to capture night-time levels and single noise events when noise matters most for sleep. I provide equipment recommendations for clients to purchase or rent, train equipment operation, and check data quality. Paired audio recordings allow identification of the source of most loud events, like construction activity, generators, or traffic.
Expert witness services
Expert reports, declarations, depositions, and hearing or trial testimony on environmental noise, its measurement and effects. I review the scientific literature and case evidence and give opinions following the data.
Scientific review & policy comment
Plain-language summaries of research on noise effects on human health, sleep, and wildlife, and technical comment on zoning, ordinances, and permit applications for noise-producing facilities such as data centers and industrial sites.
Noise data analysis & reporting
Analysis of sound level meter and recording data you already have, or data collected under a plan I design. Standard measures include average levels (LAeq), night-time levels (Lnight), peak events (LAmax), and low-frequency indicators (C- minus A-weighted levels). Results are compared against municipal noise regulations, World Health Organization guidelines and other benchmarks, and delivered as clear figures, spreadsheets, and a written summary.
Community noise studies
Design of resident-led studies pairing sound measurements with sleep diaries or disturbance logs, including consent forms, data organization, and summaries suitable for public meetings or legal proceedings.
Wildlife & ecological noise assessment
Assessment of how anthropogenic (human-made) noise and vibration affect animal communication, behavior, and communities, drawing on my research program in acoustic and vibrational ecology, and environmental acoustics.
